My partner and I visited Oklahoma City with a group of friends (8/21-23/09) and stopped in all the area gay bars and found the Phoenix Rising to be our group's bar of choice. Dropped in on Saturday night and yes, there was a Drag show featuring performers with talent who entertained the crowd with a lot of style. We wanted to check out the whole bar so we started off with great drinks from the hunky bar staff and we walked around to check things out. We ended up outside at the patio area. Plenty of "real" men were everywhere enjoying the great outdoor weather. This handsome crowd of men from all age ranges were enjoying conversation, great music and the hottest shot boys in all of the South! There are all kinds of gay bars for all types of gay men and this bar gets high marks for their friendly and sexy staff who create an atmosphere which welcomes a broad range of the gay community.

I was visiting OKC on Friday, 5/1/2009. Went to the Phoenix Rising and was expecting to see some real men. To my shock, it was the Friday night drag show. The bar was full of 20 something twinks running around screaming. Apparently, the Phoenix has changed since I was last there 2 years earlier. Drag shows are OK when it's a benefit fund raiser. I don't expect to see drag queens and twinks running around in what should be a man's bar on a Friday night. I recommend changing the name to Flamingo Flying. At least this name reflects the crowd inside.
