A Trendy but Avoidable Afterhours No No,

The Kodiak used to be the best. It has unfortunately taken a turn for the worst. The owners started off with good intentions, a posh, trendy spot in Anchorage's gay district.
Unless you've just turned twenty-one or are a teenage bridezilla, avoid it. The restaurant/grill has turned into a club. Not the kind you can actually have fun in.
Kodiak's afterhours are the worst. It does not cater to the gay crowd as much as it should. (There are much better bars and restaurants in the area that are civilized and not about "being seen".) Most people in the Kodiak are underage and "altered" or stupid.
The crowd is often pretentious and belligerent. Patrons who want to dance are shoved because the lines that extend onto the dancefloor are too long. Reports of roughness and even violence are frequent. The attitude is unwarranted.
All in all, the Kodiak crowd is trying too hard to be "trendy". The crowd and the staff come off uncouth and immature. It's a spot I have tried over and over again, but will not return, nor will I support.
I am an Anchorage resident. Despite, Kodiak's popularity, it has become a seedy and undesirable spot and needs to re-define its roots in the gay community. I'd rather go to Chilkoot Charlies.
