My favorite Happy Hour,

Everytime i am in NYC visiting i have to stop in Gym. My cousin and I do happy hour and hang out. The drinks are decent and you dont get a lot of the snobby nyc atittude.

This is billed as a gay sports bar -- acknowledging that there are many gay sports fans and athletes -- but I don't think you have to be a sports fanatic to like this place [although you might want to avoid it during big games]. The crowd is thirtyish by large, but there are both younger [20ish] and older [50ish] and they all seemed comfortable. Drinks are reasonably priced and there are lots of drink specials. During the 4 to 9 nightly two-for-one cocktail hours the crowd seemed perhaps more conversational than cruisy but that may change as the night grows older. The crowd was decidedly laid back and down to earth; saw few if any "queens with attitude." Try to imagine Ty's for the younger set, perhaps not as butch but fewer beer bellies -- not that there's anything wrong with a beer belly! A large busy space with what appear to be friendly, proudly gay bartenders! A good place to go with friends after work. May be too busy to be relaxing for some people if they go by themselves. And they give you a damn good drink for only five dollars! Definitely recommended. The place is already extremely popular and will undoubtedly become even more so over time. A nice alternative to the "attitude" bars and to Rawhide.
